Vancouver Island University provides educational opportunities and support services to non-traditional learners, as well as to students with documented disabilities that meet Ministry guidelines. For information on available services for students who are considering or enrolling in University programs or courses, please contact Accessibility Services at Cowichan Student Affairs three months prior to the start of classes. Some services and funding take time to arrange, so you are advised to PLAN AHEAD by calling Student Affairs to discuss your needs.

Are you a returning student looking for an accommodation letter?

Request for Updated Accommodation Letters

The Accessibility Services office provides information, support services and reasonable accommodation in all programs to students with documented permanent and temporary disabilities. These can range from attention deficit, learning disabilities, chronic health issues, hearing and visual impairments, physical disabilities, and temporary impairments due accident, illness, or injury.

VIU students with a documented disability may be entitled to reasonable academic and/or exam accommodation. This is determined on an individual basis and must be supported by current documents from a qualified professional. Students requiring accommodation are strongly encouraged to contact Student Affairs at least one month before the beginning of the semester.

Please let us know if you encounter any physical barriers (e.g. an out of order elevator, power door opener, construction blocking a path, etc.) at any of the VIU campuses.
